Electric MARAUS floor hatch is equipped with a special linear electric actuator (electric drive) with a remote control panel, which easily lifts the lid of the panel up to 120 kg in ~30 seconds.
The floor hatch is suitable for creating an invisible entrance to basements, cellars, basement floors, technical rooms of private and industrial buildings. It is especially convenient to use this hatch for large openings in the floor of 1.5-2.5 meters on the side of the hinge, while opening with gas springs only requires considerable physical effort. The lid is insulated and soundproofed.
In addition, the floor hatch is equipped with gas springs that are weight-adjustable, which significantly extends the service life of the actuator. The Electric MARAUS floor hatch is not designed for outdoor use, as the actuator is not protected against water, which may damage its parts in case of direct ingress. It should also be taken into account when choosing this model that the operating temperature of the actuator is +5°C ~ +40°C.
Electric MARAUS floor hatch is designed for cladding with both very heavy materials up to 30 mm thick and medium weight materials, granite, onyx, natural stone, ceramic granite, ceramic tile, vinyl tile, laminate, linoleum or other materials of similar weight. The weight of the materials together with the lid should not exceed 120 kg.
The structure of the floor hatch consists of a steel corner frame and a lid connected by a Navvy® axial hinge. The hinge has a closed bucket, where a part of the lid enters when the floor hatch is fully opened. Opening is automatic and is provided by the electric actuator and auxiliary gas springs.
The angle steel frame has a size of 40x40x3 mm, to which the hinge bucket is attached. The frame of the lid is made of a steel profile 20x40x1.2 mm, which is internally connected by steel stiffeners that strengthen the lid and protect it from deformation under heavy loads. From above, the frame is covered with a steel sheet. A 15x15.1.2 mm pipe is welded from above the frame of the lid. In this way, a tray with a depth of 15 mm is formed for pouring concrete mortar or tile glue, in which a reinforced mesh is additionally placed. A sheet of galvanized steel is attached from below, which prevents the structure from collapsing when condensation forms. Inside, the voids are filled with URSA GEO sound and thermal insulation, which is made of environmentally friendly and non-combustible materials.
A rubber seal is placed between the surface of the lid and the corner of the frame, which is attached around the perimeter of the lid. Depth of the floor hatch in the closed condition near the hinge is 90 mm, near the holders of shock absorbers - 155 mm, near the area of attachment of the electric drive - 220 mm, near the frame - 40 mm.
Profiles for hidden floor hatches in the electric MARAUS floor hatches are used exclusively from electric welded carbon cold-rolled black steel, which undergoes phosphate treatment and is covered with polyester powder paint, which ensures its anti-corrosion. Welds are made by the MIG method according to the international standard DIN EN ISO 5817.
WARNING!!! If the planned covering is laminate, parquet, parquet board or linoleum, instead of a steel sheet and a reinforced mesh, a sheet of moisture-resistant OSB is installed in the frame.
The floor hatch lid opens automatically perpendicular to the floor at 90° with the help of the JC 35 DF electric actuator and auxiliary adjustable industrial gas shock absorbers fixed on special holders. The electric actuator is controlled with a remote control.

IMPORTANT! Maximum time of continuous operation of the electric drive should not exceed 2 minutes. The working cycle of the electric drive: 10% of working time - 90% of resting time. For example, after 2 minutes of work, it is necessary to take a break of 18 minutes.
IMPORTANT! The floor hatch is not equipped with a rotary lock to protect the electric actuator.
To open the floor hatch:
Press the "open" button on the remote control and wait for the lid to open completely. To stop opening at any time, press the same button again.
To close the floor hatch:
Press the "close" button on the remote control and wait for the lid to completely close. To stop closing at any time, press the same button again.
If emergency opening of the floor hatch is necessary:
1. Unscrew the bolt from the outside of the lid, which will disconnect the electric actuator. For this, an opening must be cut in advance in the facing material. To close the opening, a decorative plug is supplied in the configuration;
2. Unscrew the decorative plug from the pre-prepared opening for the lifting handle, which is located on the lid on the opposite side of the hinge;
3. Screw the lifting handle into the opening and pull.
Before laying the facing material, you need to make the opening in it at the location of this bolt. From the outside, this opening is closed with a decorative plug supplied with the floor hatch.
The number of gas shock absorbers to be installed on the floor hatch is determined at the factory, based on the information about load level, material, weight, area of the floor hatch cover and the side of placement of the hinges.
The minimum possible outside dimensions of the structure with one lid is 600 L x 600 W mm, W is the side of the hinge, maximum 900 L x 2500 W mm, W is the side of the hinge. For larger dimensions, a design with two lids is used, the maximum permissible size of which is 1200 L x 2500 W mm, W is the hinge side or 2500 L x 1200 W, where the hinges are on opposite sides of the lid. The design of electric MARAUS allows the manufacture of floor hatches in larger sizes, but in this case the frame of the floor hatch will be completely made of AISI 304 stainless steel, which is processed by the method of chemical passivation.
Electric MARAUS design has a load class A15 (A15 = 1.5 t/m²).
Important! The floor hatch can be walked on freely, but a load greater than recommended or a car collision can damage the floor hatch facing and deform the frame over time.
The recommended outside dimensions of the electric MARAUS floor hatch should be 10 mm smaller than the opening in the ceiling between the premises to leave an installation gap.
If you need to calculate the size of the floor hatch for the size of the tile, measure the dimensions of the tile that will be placed on the lid, taking into account the thickness of the seams between the tile fragments (approximately 2-4 mm). Add to the measured dimensions of tiles with the seams the width L (perpendicular side of the hinge) of 35 mm. It is necessary to take into account part of the “Navvy” hinge bucket, on which the floor tiles overlay and are cut at an angle of 45 degrees. Add 8 mm along the length W (side of the hinge).
If you met these conditions, the tiles should be placed on the edge so that they protrude beyond its limits by 5 mm from three sides of the floor hatch, except the side where the hinge will be placed. On the side of the hinge, the tiles should not protrude!
Important!!! Clear/useful floor hatch opening with one lid is smaller than the overall one by the width of the hinge of 100 mm from one side and by the width of the corner of the frame by 40 mm from three other sides. The electric actuator additionally protrudes into the middle of the clear opening by 115 mm from the inner edge of the hinge.
Important!!! Installation of floor hatches is possible only in a horizontal position;
Important!!! In the standard configuration, floor hatches do not include fastening elements or holes;
Important!!! It is forbidden to operate the floor hatch with connected gas springs until the work on laying the floor covering is finished!
Important!!! It is forbidden to operate the floor hatch with a connected electric actuator until the work on laying the floor covering is finished!
Before starting the work, it is necessary to remove the gas springs from the floor hatch (if they were installed). The manufacturer always ships products with the gas springs removed. The gas springs are packaged separately from the other elements of the floor hatch and placed in the rear of the floor hatch.
Preparation of the opening
Prepare an opening of the correct geometric shape (rectangular or square) with 90° corners in the concrete or wooden floor. The overlap thickness between stories should be at least 200 mm. If the overlap is less than 200 mm, you need to provide additional fasteners for fixing the floor hatch. Do not start laying the finishing lining before installing the floor hatch!
Fixation of the floor hatch in the opening
Important!!! Do not install the electric actuator until the floor hatch is fully fixed in the mounting opening!
Important!!! Do not install the electric actuator before installing the gas springs!
Important!!! Install an outlet near the mounting opening for the floor hatch with the mains voltage determined for your area to connect the electric actuator.
The floor hatch of the electric MARAUS model is installed exclusively in the middle of the opening in a concrete or wooden floor.
Calculate the level to which the floor hatch frame and the hinged part will lower so that the top of the lid is at the same level as the rough floor. Move down from this level by 1-2 mm. This will be an assembly line. Mark it on the walls of the opening.
Prepare steel angles for fixing the floor hatch (not supplied with the floor hatch). For the front and side parts of the floor hatch frame, there should be at least 3 corners with outside dimensions 40 x 40 x 3 mm, for the hinge part of the floor hatch - at least 3 corners with dimensions 50 x 50 x 4 mm. Fasten these corners with one side to the walls of the opening so that the other side is turned to the top, and a shelf is formed at the level of the assembly line. You can fasten the corners in any convenient way: on 2-3 anchors, on reinforcement, by welding to a metal frame, etc. Lower the floor hatch onto the shelf from the corners and screw its frame to it with countersunk head screws. Separately fasten the shock absorber holders to the wall of the opening.
Make sure that the floor hatch is installed without distortion of the frame and in one plane with the floor surface.
Fill the gaps between the concrete floor and the lid frame with cement or another fixative and sealing solution.
If an electric "warm floor" is used in the place of installation of the floor hatch, we recommend using steel anchors 60-100 mm long and 6-10 mm in diameter instead of angles. Choose the length and diameter of the anchors depending on the size of the floor hatch and the material that will be attached to the structure (the heavier the floor hatch, the stronger the required anchors). Install the anchors so that the distance between them is 200-300 mm, no more than 200 mm from the side of the hinges.
Facing
Important!!! We recommend making 2 openings in the facing material, which will ensure the emergency opening of the floor hatch: one opening in the middle of the handle for unscrewing the emergency bolt, another one in the handle on the opposite side of the hinge for screwing in the lifting handle.
After installing the floor hatch in the mounting opening, fill the 15 mm recess in the upper part of the floor hatch ledge with a concrete solution or a special glue that, following the instructions for its use, is suitable for your facing material. A concrete screed on the lid will increase the strength of the structure and is recommended if the floor hatch will be used under maximum loads. It should also be done for floor hatches of the dimensions larger than 900 x 900 mm.
Apply a layer of tile adhesive to the concrete screed, following the recommendations for its use.
Glue the facing material. The tiles should be placed on the floor so that they protrude beyond its limits no more than 5 mm from three sides of the floor hatch, except the side where the hinge will be placed. On the side of the hinge, the tiles should not protrude!
To minimize the width of the gap in the area of the hinge attachment, where the facing material from the floor side meets the hinges, cut the thickness of the tile from the inside at a 45° angle. This will make the width of the seam between the bucket of the hinge and the floor not larger than 2 mm.
After finishing laying the lining material, open the floor hatch entrance to 90° and connect the gas springs to the floor hatch with the rod down.
After completion of installation, it is not recommended to walk on the floor hatch for 3 days.
Important!!!
Before closing the floor hatch, it is necessary to check that there are no foreign objects on the floor hatch frame, and that the seal is correctly inserted;
Gas springs, and especially the rod, should not be exposed to impact, contamination, or exposure to aggressive environments;
The fastening strength of facing materials should exclude their separation or damage when opening the floor hatch. When operating the floor hatches, water/dirt must be avoided in the floor hatch hinges to avoid jamming or corrosion. In case of deterioration of floor hatch entrance opening properties, it is allowed to lubricate these elements with lubricants.
Installation of the electric actuator
After installing the gas springs, install the electric actuator with the rod up on special fasteners on the lid and frame floor hatch. Fix it immovably with the bolts supplied in the kit. Connect the actuator cable to the power supply connector marked 1. Then connect the remote control cable to the power supply connector marked HS.
Plug the power supply unit into a pre-prepared outlet with mains voltage determined for your area. The electric actuator is ready for operation. Control the operation of the actuator using a remote control.
Important!!! Avoid ingress of water on the power supply unit and remote control unit!
4. Storage and transportation conditions
Important!!! To achieve the maximum concealment of the floor hatch, the floor covering material should be laid after installing the floor hatch, in the direction from the floor hatch to the walls. It is necessary to calculate the placement of the covering fragments so that the seams are placed along the contour of the floor hatch.
Important!!! Do not leave children unattended when the floor hatch is open, as it is a heavy construction with sharp metallic protrusions, so carelessness in its handling can lead to serious injuries and bodily harm. Be cautious!
Important!!! When closing the floor hatch, make sure that no children, domestic animals, birds or other living creatures are trapped between the frame and the entrance. They can be injured or killed when the floor hatch is being closed.
